The dreamy Spanish Islands are definitely a “yes” when it comes to the long-awaited holiday of the year. The most visited groups of islands are the Balearic and the Canary archipelagos.

Deciding between these two major destinations might be hard. Not to mention, that there are several smaller islands building the archipelago. Moreover, all of them have unique characteristics.

We will go through the best of the Spanish Islands. The first destination from our Spanish Islands Series is Mallorca Island from the Balearic archipelago.

Location

Mallorca island is located in the Mediterranean Sea and it belongs to Spain. It is the biggest of all the Spanish Islands and the second most populated.

Also, there are two mountain regions where you can hike to admire the view. Serra de Tramuntana on the north-west of the island and the Tramuntana on the southeast of the island.

The best time to go

The weather is warm most of the year. Rain comes only in October and stops in January. The best time to visit is from June to September, when the temperature is about 28°–32° Celsius (82°-90° Fahrenheit).

The island was developed for tourism, there are lots of resorts and family-friendly facilities. The main tourist attractions are in the southern part of the island.

Underground lakes are open to tourists. You can get to them through the Coves dels Hams and the Coves del Drach caves, which are both under the sea level. The island has caves also above the sea level.

Go sightseeing in the Tramuntana

There are paths through the Tramuntana Mountains where you can visit the monasteries and take a glance at the beautiful scenery of the island.
