Vienna’s Easter markets are one of the best reasons to visit the city in spring. From late March, the historic squares fill with wooden stalls, hand-painted eggs, Austrian food specialities, and live music, all set against some of the finest baroque architecture in Europe. Entry to every market is free.

Where Are the Easter Markets in Vienna?
Schönbrunn Palace Easter & Spring Market (25 Mar – 19 Apr)
The largest and most spectacular of Vienna’s Easter markets, is held in the forecourt of Schönbrunn Palace. There are many stalls offering decorated eggs, ceramics, glass, jewellery, and seasonal food, plus a full children’s programme with a straw maze, Ferris wheel, carousel, children’s train, and the famous Easter Bunny workshop. In 2026 the market stays open well past Easter, running all the way through to 19 April.

Old Viennese Easter Market — Freyung (20 Mar – 6 Apr)
The Freyung market is the one to visit if decorated eggs are your priority. Around 40,000 hand-painted eggshells are on display each year, making it the largest Easter egg display in Europe. You’ll also find ceramics, handmade jewellery, chocolates, floristry, and seasonal food. There’s a Kasperl puppet stage and a children’s craft workshop, and live music starts daily at 16:30. The Freyung sits right in the city centre, and Am Hof is just a few minutes’ walk away, making it easy to visit both in one go.

Am Hof Easter Market (20 Mar – 6 Apr)
Am Hof is the best market for handmade arts and crafts. A dedicated section, the Kunsthandwerkmarkt, carries original work from Austrian makers: ceramics, textiles, woodwork, and jewellery you won’t find in a gift shop. The food stalls are strong too, with Austrian specialities including apple strudel, slow-roasted ham, and local cheeses.

Kalvarienbergfest — 17th District (19 Mar – 5 Apr)
This is a cozy, neighborhood-style market that feels much more local than the big tourist spots. It runs in the Hernals neighbourhood and has a local, community feel, smaller stalls, street food, children’s entertainment, and live music rather than tourist-oriented crafts.

Blumengärten Hirschstetten — 22nd District (26–29 Mar & 2–6 Apr)
This Easter celebration takes place in the city’s municipal flower gardens in the 22nd district. It’s part market, part spring festival, and particularly good for families. Stalls sell food, Easter crafts, and plants, while the children’s programme includes daily face painting, a carousel, a children’s train, and an Easter bunny trail through the gardens.

Schloss Hof — Day Trip Easter Market
About 50 kilometres east of Vienna, the baroque Schloss Hof palace runs its own Easter market on weekends and public holidays. It’s a beautiful setting with a strong family programme: crafts, an Easter Bunny workshop, carriage rides, and pony rides. Entry includes admission to the palace grounds.

Good to Know Before You Go
All the Vienna Easter markets are free to enter. Most accept card payments, but it’s worth keeping some euro cash for food stalls and smaller vendors.
The Easter weekend (3 – 6 April) is the busiest period, weekday mornings are noticeably quieter at all markets. Schönbrunn in particular recommends booking your (free) timed entry slot online in advance.
Getting around: The Freyung and Am Hof markets are walkable from Stephansplatz. Schönbrunn is one stop on the U4. The Vienna City Card covers unlimited public transport and includes museum discounts, good value for a short trip.
Weather: March and April can be unpredictable, with temperatures between 7°C – 16°C (45°F – 61°F) and a good chance of rain. A light waterproof is worth packing, especially for evening visits.
